We’re for Better Mental Health

Mental illness affects 1 in 5 Australians every year, with the most common being depression and anxiety. Mental illness doesn’t discriminate. It affects people from all walks of life — individuals, families, workplaces and communities.

The Black Dog Institute is an independent Australian not-for-profit medical research institute connected with UNSW Sydney. It focuses on diagnosing, treating, and preventing mood disorders like depression, anxiety, and bipolar disorder, while actively working on suicide prevention across all age groups.

In mental health, the "black dog" is a famous metaphor for depression. It pictures depression as an unwanted, persistent companion that follows you everywhere, weighs you down, and drains the color and joy from life, much like a heavy, dark animal tied to your side
